We tell ourselves that we are wives, mothers, nurses, momtrepreneurs, ministry leaders, and so many other titles. As the weeks and months roll by, we start to identify ourselves as these things.
We tell ourselves that we should work out every detail of our children’s lives and that our homes cannot function without us. We brand ourselves as mompreneurs who have perfected the blueprint for running a business while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. We find ourselves being the hub of a thriving ministry where the wheels only turn because of us.
We are a lot of things to a lot of people, and sometimes we lose our identities while fulfilling roles and wearing different hats. As empowered godly wives, we have to be careful. It is so easy to go astray and assume an identity different from the one the Lord gave to us.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way… (Isaiah 53:6 NIV)
How Not To Go Astray as a Godly Wife?
Going astray is not only about walking away from the faith. Sometimes it happens in more subtle forms, and this is why we have to put God first, ensure we don’t get sidetracked, and remain consistent.

Put God First
A great way for us not to go astray as we fulfill our duties as wives, moms, and women of faith is to put God first. When making decisions and when we are overwhelmed by emotions, we need to submit to His will instead of doing what we want.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 ESV)
The key is to not identify ourselves according to our worldly responsibilities but by daily submitting to His will. This will prevent us from going astray and losing our identities in Christ.
Don’t Get Sidetracked
So you have spent years honing your craft as a mompreneur. You are good at it; you coach other moms who want to start their own businesses, and the phrase is used to describe you.
Being a successful mompreneur is not a bad thing. It’s a beautiful accomplishment. As godly wives, we have to ensure that our accomplishments don’t replace our identities in Christ. We have to strike the balance between being a woman of faith and a mompreneur if we don’t want to be sidetracked by our accomplishments.
Be Consistent
Being consistent women of God means we have to keep the faith. When the months and years start to stack up, we have to ensure that we don’t put aside our faith because our roles and responsibilities feel overwhelming.
We missed church one week because we were extremely tired. Soon we realize that this practice has gone on for years. Like sheep, we have gone astray, and we only show up for church on special holidays like Christmas.
Being a wife, mother, business owner, author, or volunteer should never take priority above our faith and our relationship with the Lord.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
If we live by the precepts of this text, then we need not worry about going astray like sheep. Instead, our identities as godly wives will be centered on the Lord instead of on our roles and responsibilities.
Final Thought
As empowered godly wives, it’s easy for us to lose our identities and be like sheep who have gone astray. That’s why putting God first, not getting sidetracked, and being consistent are three ways to prevent us from losing our identities and going astray like sheep.
