Empowering Godly Wives Believing in a Lie

Hello Godly Wives!

I’m just popping in to share one of my childhood experiences. I hope that you’ll focus more on the lesson from the story rather than the story itself.

I don’t know about the other moms out there, but my mom has a playful side. She would use the silliest things to make jokes, prank us, or place the fear of God in us.

In this post I’ll share a story about a lie that I believed in as a child, Bible stories about believing in a lie, the consequences of believing in a lie, and Bible verses about God can’t lie to help you trust Him more fully.

My Story About Believing in a Lie

One day while eating an orange, one of the seeds accidentally went down my throat. Based on my limited experience and what my two older cousins told me, I knew that orange seeds were not supposed to be eaten. I was a little worried, mostly because I had no idea what would happen.

A little while after the orange seed episode, I figured it would be wise to tell my mom about the situation, so I did. Oh dear, telling her was a mistake in itself. There I was, thinking to myself that if anything should go wrong because of the orange seed mishap, my mother would know what to do.

But guess what happened after I told her about it? Instead of having an adult on my side in case anything happened, I now found myself in a state of worry.

She asked me why I let the orange seed slip down my throat, then went on to mortify me by letting me know that the seed was going to grow and soon enough branches and leaves would be growing from my ears and nose.

I Believed in a Lie

There I was, a little child, terrified that in the near future an orange plant will be growing inside me. I worried about the leaves and branches that would hang from my ears, and might I dare say, I even imagined my mom picking ripe oranges from me.

Of course my mom was just kidding. Of course the little orange seed would have made its way out of my digestive tract. But I was gullible, and I trusted that since she was older, whatever she said was the truth.

How often do we find ourselves holding onto lies? How often do we find ourselves believing things that others say just because of their age, position, authority, or some other criteria we hold in high esteem?

Empowering Godly Wives Psalm 118:8 NIV

Even the Bible has stories about people who believe in lies. These stories are biblical reminders that we should be careful of what and who we place our trust in.

Bible Story About Believing In A Lie

Eve Believed in a Lie (Genesis 3:4)

When Eve was in the Garden of Eden, she believed in a lie, and it ruined her life. Not just her life, but every human on the planet has been affected by the error-riddled story that the serpent told her.

The serpent sounded knowledgeable. The serpent presented extra information that Eve didn’t think about, and soon she made a regrettable decision.

Other Bible Stories About Believing in a Lie

There are many other Bible stories that I could mention about individuals who believed in a lie. In 1 Kings 13, the man of God believed in a lie and visited the prophet’s house to eat and drink. Jacob was tricked by Laban and ended up married to the wrong woman. (See Genesis 29:20-25.)

In Genesis 37:31-34, Joseph’s brothers told their father that he was dead after selling him to traders. Delilah’s relationship with Samson was based on a lie, and Samson withheld the truth about his strength from her many times. (Judges 16)

Consequences of Believing in Lies

Like believing that an orange seed will grow inside my tummy, the lies we believe in may cause us unnecessary worry and fear. Even worse, they could change the trajectory of our lives or even lead to death.

The lie that Jacob believed in meant he had to work seven extra years for the bride he wanted. The lie the man of God believed in led him to a tragic end.

Who are you listening to? Who are you allowing to trick you? When all else fails, we can be sure of one thing. The God we serve can never tell a lie.

Trust That God Will Never Lie to You

It’s always comforting to know that we can trust in the Lord wholeheartedly because He’s a God who cannot lie. Let’s take a look at some Bible verses about God cannot lie and scriptures to help you trust in God.

Bible Verses About God Cannot Lie

Here are some Bible verses that talk about God cannot lie. Because of this unchanging fact, we can always trust in His promises and believe in everything that He says.

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (Hebrews 6:18 NIV)

We can be hopeful knowing that the word of the Lord is unchangeable. His words stand forever, and every bit is truthful.

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time. (Titus 1:2 NIV)

We can claim the promises of God because He will always stand by His word. The promises He makes for us are always in our best interest to give us hope and the promise of eternal life.

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19 NIV)

You may be tempted to run to family members when you find yourself in trouble. The advice that some individuals offer may be a combination of truth mixed with error. Sadly, some of the individuals in your circle will trick you the way Laban tricked Jacob. Whether you want to admit it or not, some people are just pure evil, and they will tell you lies that may even cost your life.

But unlike our mortal companions, the promises of the Lord are true, just, and righteous all together. Psalm 19:7 states, “The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy.”

Bible Verses to Help You Trust in God

Sure, there will be moments when worry or fear may start to get a grip on you. In these moments it’s helpful to meditate on Bible verses that will help you to trust in God and get through these moments.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. (Psalm 118:8 NIV)

When friends, family members, and associates fail, you can always trust that God will have your best interest at heart.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7 NIV)

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7 NIV)

Never let earthly things that offer a sense of security replace the trust that you should have in the Lord.

Will you suffer the consequences of believing in the lies others tell you? Or will you trust that the Lord is enough for the challenges you face?

I hope that you will not lean on others or your limited understanding but trust in the Lord with all your heart. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5 NIV)

Final Thought

I hope that this post about Bible stories about believing in a lie, the consequences of believing lies, Bible verses about God cannot lie, and verses about trusting God will help you to trust in the Lord more fully while being careful of what others tell you to believe in.

Prayer

Here is a short prayer that will help you to trust the Lord more fully and prevent you from believing in lies.

Prayer to Prevent You From Believing in Lies.

Father,

I come against the spirit of lies, doubt, fear, and insecurity. Help me to test the words that others say to me. Give me a discerning mind that I may be able to tell the difference between lies and the truth. May I not be gullible as I listen to others, but may I be able to spot lies and lying lips when they try to trick me.

Lord, help me to trust You more fully, to depend on You as my source of encouragement and hope, and to be content knowing that You can never tell a lie. Thank You for your promises and the hope I have in You. I want to trust in You with all my heart and not lean on my limited understanding. I submit this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
