Have you ever heard the song, “Little is much when God is in it”? It’s a powerful reminder that quantity and size do not always determine the final outcome.
If you should compare the size of the United States to Jamaica, you would definitely agree that Jamaica is just a tiny speck on the map. If you should compare the 2008 Olympic teams for both countries, you would also agree that the US team was greater in a number of ways.
At the end of the Olympics, though, the world’s fastest man was not from the US Olympic team. This title was claimed by Usain Bolt, a native of that small speck on the map known as Jamaica and a member of the tiny Jamaican Olympic team.
Sometimes the challenges we overcome and the victories we win are not because of how big and mighty we are. In fact, most of our victories help us to realize and appreciate how mighty and awesome God is.
So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6 NIV)
Will you quiver and buckle at the knees when things seem impossible, or will you claim the power of the Almighty?
When next you meet upon an insurmountable task or face a situation that you can’t seem to find a way out of, just remember that ‘by the Spirit’ you can get through it.
Prayer
Not By Might Nor By Power Prayer
Mighty God,
Help me to daily live by the mantra “Little is much when God is in it.” Let me not lose sight of Your might and power when I face trying circumstances and insurmountable tasks. Allow me to embrace the fact that my victories are not by my own might or power but by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for empowering me in Christ’s name, I pray, amen.
