Getting up-close and personal with God
One day I was flabbergasted by the actual size of the wheels on airplanes. As a child, the closest I went to an airplane was when we went to the waving gallery at the airport to say goodbye to family members and friends.
I saw airplanes as they flew over our house or while watching TV but they were just tiny specks compared to the actual thing. For some reason I convinced myself that airplanes have the smallest wheels of all the types of transportation that I know.
I was flabbergasted because the truth hit me. How could I really think that airplanes had tiny wheels when they are so large? Logics, physics, and common sense should have led me to the truth earlier but they didn’t.
Upfront and personal experience
I had a pretty good idea what the exact size of a bicycle, car, truck, or tractor wheel looked like because I had up front and close experiences with them frequently. No one could trick me or surprise me about their correct sizes because I ‘know what I know’.
It’s the same way with God. We all have to know Him for ourselves and have an upfront and personal relationship with Him.
Don’t serve God from a distance
We can’t distance ourselves from God by staying in the ‘waving gallery’ of life. We have to go to Him, sit with Him, and allow Him to be our trusted companion and pilot as we travel through life.
Don’t get tricked by others
If you are doubtful about who God really is it will be easier for others to lead you astray. That’s why it’s important to learn about Him by studying His word.
Do you have a personal relationship with God?
Are you serving God from the waving ‘gallery of life’? Are you unsure about His awesome power and the role He plays in your life? Are you serving Him based on what others tell you or do you search the scriptures to know Him for yourself?
3 Bible verses about knowing God for yourself.
Draw close to Him
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (James 4:8 KJV)
The closer we get to God the more He will reveal Himself to us. He will no longer seem like a small matter but will become real and visible in each area of your life.
Learn about Him
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: (Matthew 11:29 KJV)
Jesus commands us to learn of Him. When we obey this command we will be reminded that He is meek and lowly but should be highly exalted. He left heaven and sacrificed Himself so that we may have a right to eternal life.
Study His word
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, (Hebrews 4:12 KJV)
Setting aside time for Bible study is very important. The word of God will edify and empower you as you continue on your journey of faith. It’s a shield protecting you from the traps of the devil and defense to keep you safe.
Get close with God today
Don’t just depend on what others tell you about God. Draw close to Him, learn of Him, and study His word. I pray as you create your own personal experiences with Him, He will not seem like small wheels or a tiny airplane flying by but will reveal His love, grace, and power to you.
