Today’s chapter: Psalm 14
Today’s verse: Psalm 14:1
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Have you ever seen a child covering his or her eyes in an effort to hide from someone or something?
Until a child reaches a certain age he or she may not understand the concept of object permanence.
According to Kendra Cherry, object permanence is, “used to describe a child’s ability to know that objects continue to exist even though they can no longer be seen or heard”.
A child will be quite content to cover the eyes, go under a table or hide behind some other object that is too small to conceal his/her entire body. Not being able to see, hear or otherwise sense a person, an object or a thing means the child (in his or her own mind) is invisible or even invincible.
A child will feel safe to dismantle a toy while the room door is locked or enjoy two extra servings of icecream under the dining table. In the child’s mind mommy is not under the dining table so she will never know what happened.
Its very fascinating that a scared child will cover the eyes to feel safe. A guilty child will find contentment in the thought that no one is there/near.
The child saying there is no one or nothing there is very similar to Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
As adults we treat God in a similar manner. Yes, we know He is an infinite omni-present being but sometimes we go ahead with our day and not acknowledge Him.
We make decisions without consulting Him. We try to fix our problems, remedy the shortcomings of our spouses and other family members or simple just ‘hide under the table’ from Him.
In not acknowledging and welcoming Him in every decision and all aspects of our lives we are subltly denying Him.
We deny His blessings, His guidance, His provision and direction in our lives. We tread the thin line of thinking to ourselves that there is no God.
If our relationships, decisions, marriages and other aspects of our lives are void of God’s leading and input where is He?
Is He really there?
Don’t cover your eyes, hide under the table or shut the door when you make your next decision or when you approach your next challenge.
God is there, He can see you, He can hear you. He knows exactly what you are about to do long before you even think about doing it. Instead of doing things alone acknowledge Him. Invite Him in. He has so much to offer you, so much to do for you so much more to fulfil within you
Don’t deny Him!
Acknowledge and embrace Him in all you do.
