Today’s chapter: Psalm 7
Today’s verse: Psalm 7:17
I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.
In many countries there are citizens who subscribe to a certain political figure, group or school of though and will do so unwaveringly no matter what. Some Americans will always be loyal to Donald Trump regardless of his political accomplishments or failures.
Some Jamaicans will always deem themselves a socialist or a labourite despite the fact that the political party they subscribe to may not have the best interest of the nation or the citizens at heart.
Many onlookers or political analysts may criticise the decision of persons to follow a certain political leader or group “to the last breath”. To them it seems unreasonable, illogical or even downright foolish.
Throughout his life, David has been through many afflictions. He was highly coveted by King Saul without any good reason. To make things worst King Saul made many attempts at David’s life.
David had to go through the ordeal of outliving a child of his more than once. Many individuals plotted against him, betrayed him, and tried to take the kingdom from him. Even his own son Absalom was guilty of opposing him.
God had allowed many afflictions to come upon David but through it all David was still a loyal, die-hearted follower of God. It seemed illogical that God chose David to be anointed by the prophet, gave him the victory of slaying Goliath and then did nothing while he was chased endlessly by a jealous King Saul.
He was so loyal to God that he refused to harm his own enemy-Saul when he had a chance to do so. ‘Touch not the Lords anointed’ meant that David will not oppose or harm anyone that God endorses even if the person is his sworn enemy.
How strange is that?
For a married person it’s not very strange.
Loyalty in a marriage is the same as with a die-hearted labourite to Edward Seaga or a devoted David to God. Psalm chapter seven starts with David begging God to save him ‘from all them that persecute’ him and ended with David declaring that he ‘will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high’.
Die-hearted followers will quickly dispel any erring or failure of their favourite political figure and continue to praise their work and accomplishments.
In a marriage each spouse has to be a die-hearted partner. Forget about all the difficulties, stresses and trials that you endure as a couple. God has been good. He has joined you both together and you have vowed to love each other till death.
Be like a die-hearted political follower.
Be like a devoted David.
Turn your attention away from the negative and focus on the positive. Focus on the good times in your marriage. Zoom in on the positive traits your spouse has then praise the Lord who has provided you with your own someone to have and to hold.
