Bible Stories and Verses for the Doubtful

Hello Godly Wives!

In this post I’ll share a personal story about doubt, and then I’ll look at Bible stories and verses that will help to deal with doubt.

I promise you all, I’m most definitely not picking on my mother, but I want to share another of my childhood experiences that she was a part of. This experience was about her (and me) being doubtful.

When I started the sixth grade, my cohort was the first to officially sit the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT). For a few years before I went into grade six, GSAT operated as a pilot and was administered alongside the National Assessment Program (NAP) and its predecessor, Common Entrance.

My Mother Was Doubtful

I admit, I was never the kid who took the top place in my class. Adding to that, my penmanship (according to my mom) was disastrous, and there were other areas that definitely needed improvement.

I guess these are some of the reasons why my mom always lamented that I wouldn’t pass the GSAT. Every night before going to bed I would ask the Lord to let me pass the test, but deep down I feared that my penmanship and other weak areas would cause me to fail.

This was a new exam, and unlike the common entrance that allowed students three chances to take the test, GSAT students had only one chance to either pass or fail.

I was fearful, anxious, and doubted that I would be successful in the exams.

Some Causes of Doubt for Godly Wives

Chances are that as an empowered godly wife, doubt, fear, and anxiety make their way into your life. Similarly to my mom, you may be doubtful about the ability of your child.

Raising kids, ministry, your work environment, finances, self-improvement, and so many other things sometimes push us to the point where fear and doubt cause us to lose faith. Even amidst all of this, you can be confident knowing that the Lord wants you to be optimistic and hopeful.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 NIV)

Bible Stories and Verses for Dealing With Doubt

There are many Bible verses and Bible stories that we may use for encouragement when we face moments of doubt and fear.

Bible Stories About Dealing With Doubt and Fear

The Woman with the Issue of Blood and the story of Abigail are examples that show how two empowered godly women faced their fears head-on and got victory in the end.

The Woman With the Issue of Blood Wasn’t Doubtful

Though she suffered for years, the woman with the issue of blood kept trying to find a cure for her illness. She was persistent and she didn’t give up. When she learned that Jesus was going to be in her area, she stepped out in faith.

Instead of worrying that someone would see her or doubting that a little touch wouldn’t be enough, she dispelled every bit of doubt, reached out, touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, and then was healed because of her faith.

Abigail Wasn’t Doubtful

When Abigail learned about the calamity that was going to fall on her entire household, she confidently made preparations and bravely went to meet David. When she approached David, instead of showing doubt and fear, she approached him with power, love, and a sound mind.

Bible Verses About Dealing With Doubt and Fear

When dealing with doubt and fear, these Bible verses will provide hope, empowerment, and confidence.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6 NIV)

This text is a reminder that, as godly women, we should also seek prayer as a source of empowerment. It’s amazing to know that we can take whatever it is that is causing us anxiety, fear, and doubt to the Lord.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7 NIV)

This Bible verse is a must-have for every empowered godly wife. It points us to the fact that the Lord is our source of empowerment. Additionally, we are reminded that the Lord doesn’t want us to live in a state of fear. Instead, He wants us to confidently embrace our experiences with a sound mind, knowing we are loved by Him.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV)

The Lord doesn’t want our thoughts to be burdened by negative feelings. This is why, in addition to telling us not to worry, He also gave us the assurance that He’ll give us the strength to endure whatever we face in life.

Now let’s get back to that GSAT story. Even though my mom and I doubted and thought that my weaknesses would have caused me to fail the test, my teacher had a different opinion. Throughout the entire year, my classroom teacher expressed her confidence that I would be one of the top students for the exam.

Guess what? The doubts that my mom and I had were all but lies. When the results came out, the confidence of my classroom teacher was confirmed, and I was placed in one of the top girl schools in Montego Bay.

To all my godly women reading this post, I just want to make this point. There will be moments when you doubt your abilities. There will be seasons in your life when fear and anxiety may seem to be dictating the narrative, but remember this—don’t give in to the lies of doubt.

Someone believes in you the same way my sixth-grade teacher believed in me. Someone is confident that you will make it successfully. Someone is right there with you in the midst of it all, just waiting to reward you for having enough faith.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 NIV)

Will you allow doubt, anxiety, and fear to taint what you think about yourself? Or will you embrace the Spirit of love, power, and sound mind that the Lord has given you? I pray that you will face each life experience with faith like the woman with the issue of blood.

Final thought

I hope that these Bible stories and verses about dealing with fear and doubt will help you to be confident as you go through doubtful and fearful moments.

Prayer

This prayer will empower godly wives and just about anyone else who is doubtful. Pray it in faith, and it will help you to deal with doubt and fear when they show up in your life.

Prayer to Deal With Doubt and Fear

Lord,

I confess that sometimes doubt and fear get the best of me. Help me to let go of these crippling feelings and to trust that You will always be enough. Help me to be strong and courageous in moments of fear. Remind me constantly not to be anxious and doubtful but to be bold as I take everything to You in prayer.

May I cling to the promise that You have not given me a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind. May I be brave like Abigail as I face challenges. Empower me with the persistence and faith of the woman with the issue of blood. May I reach out to You in faith, expecting that You will answer my requests. Thank You for being my Comforter and Friend in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
