Today’s chapter: Psalms 39

Today’s verse: Psalms 39:12

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

Sometimes it seems as though God has far removed himself from: you, your affliction, your tears and your countless calls for help.

You pray and wait but then there’s only “silence. You plead and hope for an expedited response and nothing happens. You tell yourself “He’s an on time God” but you get anxious thinking His timing is taking forever.

Sometimes God shows up and instantly answers your prayer the way He did when Abraham found the ram caught in a thicket just in time for the burnt offering. (Genesis 22:13)

Other times He delays His response to the point where the chance of a prayer being answered becomes humanly impossible. In times like these remember that Sarah and Abraham had a child when they had long passed the age to have children. (Genesis 21:2)

David pleaded for God to hear his prayer and give ear to his cry. This plea didn’t happen because David thought God was busy listening to others. David did not think God had placed his attention on other individuals or matters that were more urgent.

David hoped in God. “…my hope is in thee” (Psalms 39:7). He was confident that God had the perfect answer to all the struggles he was facing. All the challenges that life threw at him could be remedied by Him who will hear his prayer and give ear to his cry.

The request you have may be urgent. The challenges you face may be difficult. You may feel that you don’t have enough strength to endure. But one fact remains. God hears all your prayers.

God’s response will be perfectly suited for the urgency and difficulty of every situation. It is not your strength but His strength that will enable you to endure.

While waiting there in what you consider to be “the silence” it is His strength that allows you to endure.

It is His strength that will keep you going to the point where you realize that:

✓He was working in your behalf during the silence.

✓His timing is perfect though He seems to take forever to respond.

✓ He heard your cry and your prayer has been answered (sometimes without you realizing).

Don’t become anxious by the silence. Don’t give up hope because His timing seems late.

Put your hope in Him and be confident that He heard your prayer and during the silence He is working behind the scences.
