Today’s chapter: Psalms 28

Today’s verse: Psalms 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

The strength of a house depends on a few basic things. A firm foundation, durable material and a sturdy roof are three things that will determine if a house will endure severe weather and survive the test of time.

The foundation should be able to carry the weight of the house plus other things like equipment, furniture and people. The material chosen to build the house should be considered based on certain realities. Will a wooden structure endure the climate and other natural disasters or should you opt for concrete or brick?

Should you only think about aesthetics and what is in style? Or should you also factor in storms, hurricanes and tornadoes when deciding on the roofing for your house?

The decisions you make during the building process will ultimately determine if you end up with a strong house or not.

A marriage relationship may be likened to a strong house. A firm foundation is needed for a strong healthy marriage. The relationship must be founded upon love and God. Without these components simple things like a difference of opinion may cause the marriage to crumble.

God is love and love is of God. With God and love as the foundation of your marriage you and your spouse will be able to endure the challenges that life throws at you. This is because like David you would have embraced God as your strength and your shield.

Communication, unity and joy may be compared to the material used to build a house. These components will determine if your marriage will weather the test of time. When disaster comes will you trust that you and your spouse will endure?

…my heart trusted in him, and I am helped… Psalms 28:7

David trusted in the Lord and he got help. If you and your spouse also place your trust in Him, He will help you through any difficulty that comes your way.

A strong house is not complete without a roof. A roof is needed to protect you from the elements. Peace and prayer may be used as covering for your marriage. Though storms of financial difficulties, stress, anxiety and grief may rain down upon you. Peace and prayer will allow you to greatly rejoice and sing praises to Him who sustains your marriage.

Place God and His love at the foundation of your marriage. Invest in communication, unity and joy as you trust in God and endure the test of time. Depend on peace and prayer and He will help you to greatly rejoice.
