Today’s Chapter: Psalm 9
Today’s verse: Psalm 9:10
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Nanny of the Maroon is the only named female national hero to date in Jamaica. She was a great leader of the Maroons who had successfully established a village where enslaved who ran away from plantations could enjoy a communal life. The people in the village placed their trust in Nanny for protection and a chance of existence that excluded life on a plantation in servitude.
Wives may often times find themselves in a state of mind where they need to escape and be free. Marriage, childrearing, work obligations, ministry and other social commitments may weigh you down to a point where you feel like a captive of servitude.
Serving others may be a fulfilling duty but if overdone it may take its toll on you and cause you to feel overwhelmed. Striking a balance, retreating and taking a Sabbath from all you do may be the solution you are looking for.
When you need to escape from your life of servitude run to God, he has way more to offer than any Maroon village.
You know His name, you know you can put your trust in Him. “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee…”
Call upon Him in prayer. He will give you the same sense of relief and protection Queen Nanny gave to persons who were looking for a place of refuge. “…for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
The next time you feel like escaping servitude, commune with Him. He understands what you are going through. He understands: your anxieties, your apprehension and all that make you nervous so feel free to leave them at His feet.
The next time you feel like escaping servitude, seek the Lord and enjoy a retreat with Him. Spend time in the word, sing your favourite hymns, listen to a few motivational sermons or podcasts. Turn on some gospel music, fetch your dancing shoes and get your groove on.
